Thoughts That Walk the Night
Thoughts that walk the night;
Longings that stalk the light
And fly on the wings of morning;
All the songs without words
The soul hums at noonday,
Joyously unforgettable
In the wake of star shadows.
Bring me your love songs, unsung;
The frivolous time abandoned
On the shores of neverness.
Seek love’s empty doorway;
The lighted cathedral windows
In stained glass morning sighs;
Flown away on clouds of despair;
Lost in dreams revived to live again
In the sparkling eyes that love-light filled
On dreamless nights that must live
In the starless reaches of infinity.
Bring me your soul songs, unsung-
Sing them to me in dreams
Where your lips whisper my name.
